Be at the location or know the location
You choose per vault how it opens. New vaults default to in-person only, the most secure option.
In person: physically present within the unlock radius (with Face ID / Touch ID for a biometric vault).
Point on the map: if you enable it, target the spot on the map with your unlocked device.
A hidden vault can also be set to open only when you’re physically at the spot, a safeguard against being forced to open it while away.
